Sunday, July 27th, from 11am to 3pm in Hodgkins Park (near Davis Square on Holland Street).
There is still time to donate! If you want to just bring your things to the location that morning, that would also be good. The
davis_square community yard sale has even gotten press coverage.
I even have a flyer that I will spare posting directly.
All proceeds benefit the Somerville Homeless Coalition and the Executive Director of the SHC will be in attendance.
Hippies and yard sales,
You know its for a good cause,
There might be free hugs.
EDIT: Is anyone coming to the event that lives in the Fenway area? We know of someone wishing to donate items without a way of getting there. Email me at davisyardsale@gmail.com if you can do this good deed!
hello b0st0n.
I am having issues with parking my car. It will only be here for another week but there is absolutely NO WHERE near me that is non-permit parking (I am in inman square) and I cannot afford any tickets.
Are there any cheap long-term parking lots? Is there anywhere to find out where there is "open" (non-permit, non-metered) parking? (something google maps should jump on asap)
I am freaking out because I don't know what to do with my car for its last week in Boston!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
We're having a christening in the North End at the end of August (non-feast weekend). We're trying to figure out where to have a reception afterwards and having a tough time. We've contacted about 10 restaurants (Artu, Cantina, Lucca, La Famiglia Giorgio, The Living Room, Joe's American Bar & Grill) and most have availability (except The Living Room which told us we were all set but then informed me that because they have an earlier function they're not willing to do two so rescinded the reservation - BOO, and Joe's which doesn't offer private functions in the summer). But they're all sit-down family style dinner menus even at 1:30pm on a Sunday. I'm worried that no one is going to want to eat heavy Italian in scorching August heat and then have to walk around.
Has anyone had a function anywhere in the North End with lighter fare? Even passed apps/buffet/cheese & fruit would be fine. I'm thinking about $20/person for about 50 people.
If we do end up having to go family style, has anyone been to functions at any of the above? I've had dinner at each and liked them all fine (didn't love any except Lucca but they have a $4K minimum for private functions so they're out of the running), but how a restaurant handles regular dinner versus a larger function can sometimes be VERY different. I'd love to hear any rants or raves.
If you can think of anywhere else I should try, please let me know.
Yes I checked the memories, and no I didn't find anything even remotely close.
The Hong Kong Cafe has new owners, and isn't very good anymore...
so, my dad and I need a good sit down - not bar- restaurant for pre-game dinner.
I already found a bunch online, but I want YOUR recommendations, please!
*something casual (Red Sox attire)
*must taste delicious
THANK YOU!! :)
Let's say you've lived in Boston in the past and obtained one of those stickers for your car...
I remember the lady at the City Hall telling me that unless I'm renewing the sticker, I must return the old one if I move or something like that. If I don't, I will never ever be able to obtain another one.
Well, I moved and forgot to return the damn thing. I allowed it to expire, and don't even own that car anymore.
Please, please, tell me that the lady was exaggerating about the never-ever-another-sticker thing. I understand why they don't want any lose stickers floating around--especially since this was an Allston-Brighton sticker--but come on... Even if I gave it to someone or sold it on the Black Market for Allston-Brighton Parking Stickers, the stupid expired parking permit would be useless to the recipient...
So am I really black-listed for life as far as city parking permits go? Would I have to live in H2Otown or something if I wanted to move back into the area? ;)
hey fiends,
i'm wondering if any of you know where i could find a tall (about 15ft-ish?) wall that i can hit some balls against? preferably in the brookline/allston/brighton area? thanks!
The Bostonist quoted my most wonderful amazing ever b0st0n community post. Check the fourth quote down, motherfuckers!
-- When the average Bostonian loses his or her keys a landlord or a locksmith gets a phone call. When a b0st0nian loses keys, you get: "If you are reading this and we've been sleeping together recently, could you check around your house?" [b0st0n]
That was me spewing wit and emotional bile and personal disorganization all over the internets.
It takes but little to feed my megalomania! MUAHAHAHA?!?!?!
I expect shrines all over this metro area, people!
While I'm posting about nothing in particular, my evil twin, Fangela Fangula, recently launched fangfriends.com. Follow it closely, like that intimate STD encounter you just can't shake since last summer.
hey guys, has anyone used ticketsnow or stubhub or any of those?
i wanna see a sold out show but i've never used either before. don't want to get screwed on fake tickets or something
thanks!
Any thoughts on living in Salem?
I have to go to school/probably work at least part-time in downtown Boston, and I don't drive a car right now (its a possibility though). Is the commute really only 25 min.?
I grew up in a city and have never lived very far from one, so I'm not sure what to expect.
Can anyone reccomend a good rock climbing gym (or a gym with a good wall in it) that would work for a beginner? I'd like to get into it, but I have no idea which would be the best. Greater Boston area is fine as I have a car.
Any places to steer clear of?
My friend and I are having a birthday party for two of our friends this weekend. We want to buy them a cake, preferably not chocolate as I am allergic and want some cake too!
I would love to bake one but my stove/oven broke about a week ago, and while I have been surviving off fresh vegetables and food from the grill, grilled cake somehow seems like a bad idea. My friend is between apartments and is also stoveless.
We are looking for a place in Cambridge/Somerville/Boston as my schedule is pretty tight Friday eve/Saturday morning and we won't have much time to drive anywhere considerably far.
I am interested in any non-chocolate variety of cake, although I think we'll either go with traditional white/yellow cake or some kind of fruit (maybe strawberry?) cake.
Any ideas? Great bakeries? I am NOT interested in KickAss Cupcakes (not a fan), or grocery stores including Whole Foods.
Thanks for your help!
Hey all - two quick questions!
1: Where can I find mason jars/lids for jamming?
2: What are some good used bike shops in the area that have a decent selection of road bikes right now? I went to Bikes not Bombs on Sunday and found that their afforable ($250-$350) selection of road bikes was almost completely depleted. International and Landry's near me in Allston don't have anything used. Right now I'm checking out CL, but I'd like to buy something I know is in good working condition.
Thanks!

Howdy, b0st0nites.
So, I have a buddy from Texas who's been here a while. The other day, he tripped over a cap belonging to a bottle of a beer called Shiner Bock, which is his favorite beer from back home, and he basically went nuts over it because he can't find it anywhere. He's wondering if there are any places in the city/JP/Mission Hill/anywhere that stock it without special order.
Help a Texan out?
Strange request.
I've been a parrot owner for a few years now and am starting to work with the larger species. Anyone around here have larger parrots that I can either work with or visit with? Even meeting for coffee to exchange stories would be great. I'm the most interested in Moluccan Cockatoos, but any of the larger cockatoos/macaws would be great. I myself own a Ducorps Cockatoo among my other parrots. :D
Are any of you kind folks using RMAIL with SpamAssassin in Emacs?...
Hello,
b0st0n. I'm visiting your fine city, and have need of an urgent care facility. I've checked your memories, but not found anything applicable. Additionally, I've googled, yelped, checked my insurance company's useless website, called countless places and found the following:
1. If you don't want them to become your PCP, individual doctors don't want to see you.
2. If I go to the ER, it's going to cost me a $100 co-pay.
3. Urgent care facilities (where I could get away with a normal co-pay) are apparently hard to find, or make it hard to get in touch with them.
So, I come to you. Can anyone suggest a doctor who might see me? Or perhaps another urgent care facility that I've missed? I've left messages with the Tufts General Medical folks, but I'd like to expand my options if possible. If all else fails, I'll wait until I get home, but my toe might have fallen off by then, and if it does, I'm leaving it here.
I'm staying in the financial district, so ideally, it would be close enough to walk (limp) or take a cab.
Thanks!
Update: Looks like I'm all set, thanks!

This is the first time I've tried to use Craigslist for the September 1st apartment rush, and it's a totally different experience than the last time when I was looking during "low-peak" season. The competition is crazy, I've had times where apartments get rented out the day before i'm going to see them, tons of non-responses from ads, people telling me they are overwhelmed with responses, etc.
So, I try with the good folks here. Anybody looking for a September 1st roommate? 26 year old guy here, work full time as a web designer, pretty low-key, friendly, and neat... lookin' for a place close to the T, 2 or 3 BR, preferably Red or Green line, can go up to $750 a month, maybe $800 if its a really great 2BR.
Anybody a-lookin'?
